This is my guess as to why many people are having issues.
Most AVCHD camcorders are lower end units and I can hardly see someone who just spent $600.00 on a camera, also spending $2500.00 and up on a new computer alone.
Yet, AVCHD is also one of the most demanding formats in terms of processing and a stable system is expensive, something they don't tell you on the packaging.
I edited a couple of AVCHD timelines on a solid i7 system with no issues, but I can tell you, looking at the system performance, that it was already getting up there.
After Effects is going to be even more demanding...
