I generally don't use Bridge unless I want to view a video - it's good for that.

I generally pull all the footage I think I'm going to use into a project, then I make sure the "Video Usage" column is close to my file name. As I use files, they are checked under Video Usage. Toward the end when I have files which are not used, I delete them from the project, to keep it cleaner.
