Hi Neil,
This is the method I use for frame hold:
Make a still of the last frame of the clip.
Put this still on the timeline behind the last frame and correct the lenght of the still.
To avoid flickering of the still: select the still in the timeline and then clip>video options>field options and select flicker removal.
