I have the same problem with SubClips and it's been driving me NUTS!... But I found a "fix". Open your subclip and set an in and out point, then right click in the Source Viewer and go to "Edit SubClip". Then check the "Convert to Master Clip" checkbox and hit OK. You will now see your full clip, but the In and Out points of the subclip are selected. It's not the best, but then this clip responds better. I use subclips to organize and then after setting the IO of what I want to use, convert back to a master clip before moving to the timeline. It's a big suck, but it at least plays back now.
