HDV Indie Film Workflow suggestions...
by pstudios on Mar 9, 2006 at 9:27:49 am

Hi all,

I'm fairly adept at Premiere functionally, but wanted to know what others are doing workflow-wise with premiere for independent features etc.

I'm talking mainly managing media, captures and sequences - I've just completed editing my first HDV short film in premeire pro 1.5.1 (with Aspect HD) and was quite happy with it, but would love to hear hints about real-world editing workflow.

This is what I did:

Capture Bin:
- contains raw AVI capture files
Scenes Bin:
- contains Sequences that match each Scene name/number in Script

Sequences all had the exact same number of Audio/Video tracks (all in the same order) with the Audio tracks named things like:
- Room-Environment
- Character1's name
- Character2
- Character3
- SFX 1
- SFX 2
- Music 1
- Music 2
then the submix tracks

that way I thought if I needed to cut and paste from one sequence to another it would all match up. Any other ideas that might help? I want to get workflow down so I can start working on feature length films. My 10min short used 5 hours of footage and I was able to deal with that ratio ok on my external 7200rpm drive - I imagine I'll have to be efficient for longer forms though.

Also, any dvd-guides/books on workflow with using premiere for long features? At this stage I don't see the pressing need to upgrade to Prem Pro 2.0.

thanks for any help/suggestions,
Sam
