The beeps suffice in the situations I've been working in lately, but they've mostly all been shoots on rather small stages. Are you suggesting the clapper is louder and thus useful in larger shooting areas?
Correct, especially when outside on location, the other issue I have run into was the AC having the speaker covered with their hand that reduced the beep to inaudible.
