Wow, George, thanx for this article. So true, everything you wrote.
The editor is the last line of defence. All the mistakes of everybody before, he has to deal with, repair or hide them, deliver the story, make something interesting, no matter, what material he was given. Deal with the wishes of the director, but stay integer to his own artistic views at the same time. Plus the producer, breathing down the director's and his neck. A crazy balancing act. And at the end, George, u re so right: the good ones stay modest about it. Chapeau!!!
