I think your points are well made. Editing does need to be seamless and bring the viewer into the story. I would suggest that a good editor should be comfortable enough with the technical side of the craft to not let it interfere with the creative side of editing. In other words: learn the tech stuff so you can forget about it while editing. And I agree that editing on the keyboard is going to make the whole process so much faster, almost as fast as you can think.
