OK, I'll bite... I too appreciate the post and the sentiments within. That said, I rarely edit feature/story material. Like many on this forum, I do primarily corporate videos. My 'talent' is usually a corporate 'talking head' and the 'story' centers around something to promote or to instruct.

I edit to organize coherent and hopefully dynamic presentations. In that regard I pace dialogue so that it is smooth but has at least some rythm with longer pauses so the listener has time to aborb one idea before being given another. Graphics are often used to support the spoken content and again, must look good but primarily be easy to understand and if there is much text, timing is usually 1 1/2 - 2 times normal reading speed. In much of my work I think in terms of 'sentences', 'paragraphs' and 'chapters'. Not scenes or dynamic tension.

I could go on but you get the idea. I throw this into the conversation because while Walter Murch aesthetics can still carry weight in 'my world' of corporate video, editing here is a whole different thing.
