I have had errors importing eps and ai files, but never with swg files. So these days I turn everything into a swg file and import that (you can save it as an swg in illustrator).
However, if the logo isn't too complicated, it's usually better to import an image and draw the logo yourself in blender. That way you have more control over the topology (where the vertices and edges are, e.g.). Path imports tend to create VERY complex geometry, with far too many vertices. Most logos can be created by using a cube and some simple extrudes.
