What is pixel to pixel mapping?

This is mentioned in the specs of the Flanders Scientific monitors, and various other monitors out there.
Can anyone explain (to a non-engineer) what it is and what the benefits are? Are there broadcast HD monitors without "pixel to pixel" mapping and what would the disadvantages of this be?
