thought i would update this post. we ordered a bundle from Tolis - 2 external HP 1740 LTO4 drives, an SAS fan out cable to connect the 2 drives to the single open channel on our R380 card, and a copy of Bru PE.
i ordered 2 LTO4 units because as i stated earlier, i would never buy a tape system without a backup tape drive. living in a mountain town, we don't have the option to walk down the street and borrow one if our main drive goes down.
i decided to get 2 external units instead of a rack unit with 2 drives because we might start using one in the field on our shoots. we're gonna see how well it works.
