Home Editing Setup

Hey all,
I've been doing some browsing online lately looking for ideas on home editing suites and wondered what some could suggest as far as setup. I want to convert one room in my apartment into a nice workspace that's also a bit trendy looking I.E. the "IKEA" type look I guess.
I own a powermac G5 and am about to purchase the cheaper (white) macbook. i really want to have a dual moniter setup and some nice sound but I'm not sure what kinds of monitors would be nice to have. I already know that the Apple ones are a little out of my price range at this point.
Any thoughts on what are some good options that wont break the bank...or better yet, any links to sites that specifically show what a good editing setup would be or how to go about starting one? Thanks
