Hi Ken,
So sorry to just be getting back to you now. To tell you the truth, I don't know what the best way to develop a depth chart is. Was kind of hoping someone else would chime in.

I wouldn't lock convergence necessarily though. Given the fixed IA, if you lock off on a "toed in" convergence, you're stuck with it. My advice is just to do as much shooting as humanly possible with 3D mindset. I realize you probably can't get your hands on the 3DA1 all the time, but just for test shots, bring out a 2D camera and shoot stills at roughly 2.5" distance, toying with convergence. No need to go scientific. Just have fun with it and see what looks good for different kinds of shots. Because the truth is nobody really has the answers. There are general "rules" but they don't apply in all situations.

Personally, I've probably learned more about shooting 3D from this stupid little "3D Camera" app I have on my iPhone than I have from any person or book, and not because the latter are poor teachers, it's just that nothing beats experience.
