creating trails and distortion on a 3d render (Particular?)

Hi guys, i have a 3d render of a jumping fish in alpha channel, the director wants it to leave a trail that is similar to smoke or ink. Im setting the emitter source as the fish layer, but not getting close to what he wants, also when i activate aux system in particular, the particles appear all over the screen.
Is it possible for particular to follow the movement of the layer based on the alpha channel and leave a trail?
