Hey Jim, I normally build all my PS projects in 1920x1080 square pixles because with Lyric you can still set you canvas to 1080 but your hardware output can be set to SD or D1 animorphic.
I've never had any problems with it other than needing to put a 1.0 Gausian Blur on my GFX.
One bit of advice when building your GFX in PS just remember that Lyric will layer you image transparencies as a Normal layer. So you'll never get Overlay, Colour Burn, etc like in Photoshop. I usually build up my design and collapse sections of it to keep some of my looks.
