Re: FCServer? Is it for us?

Jon, thanks for taking the time to respond. It's appreciated.

- Are these "local" users inside the facility or remote (outside)?
Yes local.

- By paper cuts are you referring to roughcut edits only? Do these folks have access to a system running FCP?
They could access FCP but not at their desks. What they want to do is view footage and logging notes and then produce some kind of document that will guide the editor in doing the initial rough cut; deciding which moments are important, piecing the basic story arc together. They would supply something to the editor.. typically when we do a "paper cut" it means a shot list with timecode for source footage. Perhaps FCStudio can output something better?

- So the same model for "Edit-in-Place" can be set up for local attached storage, but only the edit system with the drive attached would be abel to use EiP. All others would have to cache the assets locally in order to edit.
What is the meaning of "cache the assets locally"? Have a copy of all the full rez media? Would everyone in the company who wanted to use the FCStudio client to view material have to have a full copy of the media? I thought the clients could access the proxy media via the network?

3. We do have the usual ethernet network.
- Good, how robust and is it dedicated or handling all the other IP traffic?
It's the usual thing you find at an office, yes handling all the IP traffic. I guess there is always the possibility of installing a dedicated network for the FCStudio setup if that's what it takes to make it work.

Again, thanks.

Jason
