Using Final Cut Server as a search tool.

I manage an Xsan and have found Spotlight search to be unreliable.
I have a copy of Final Cut Server installed which we've never used but I have recently thought it might be a powerful tool for our edit assistants to use to search our Xsan for files.
I have set the Xsan to be a device and turned on scanning every night.
There seems to be a permission issue though as I only seem to be able to see an area of the Xsan we have given guest access to our clients.
The permissions system of Final Cut Server is a little different to Open Directory (even though it seems to access parts of Open Directory) so I don't know what I have to do to allow a user to be able search the entire Xsan.
