Trapcode Particular Vanishes when Camera is Added (Fixed!)

I've been trying to run through a tutorial at videocopilot.net - in it they use Trapcode Particular to generate the particles used for the effect.
I can add a background and set up particular to run, but once I add a camera so that I can pan around the scene, all of the particles vanish. If I hide the camera layer, they reappear. In the tutorial, he just added a camera and kept going without problem... so I'm not too sure what's going wrong here.
If anyone could lend their thoughts, I would greatly appreciate it.
EDIT:
It was because I was applying the plug-in to a solid layer, not a shape layer = P
