Im using Andrew Kramers Demon Face warp tutorial which is excellent for my after effects 2 min video clip but i have 2 major issues which are causing me problems and nowhere to turn for help

my problems 2 Major ones are
First Moving the item above the other one like he shows before he whips and connects no matter what i cant get it unless im extremely lucky...
Second on KEYFRAMING- How do i do it? because i get to the point in my video where i want to warp the face and change the color to a demon I follow the tutorial but when im done the entire video is the demon color everything else is fine but he starts out with demon color and normal face morphs into demon face then changes back to normal face with demon color?
Can anyone help me im on a deadline for something and my clip is only 2:22 (2minutes 22 seconds)
