PC not recognizing my camcorder

My PC is not recognizing my Sharp VL-NZ100 video camera. I have a firewire and am using a dv connection. I have tried turning the camera on and restarting the computer but it still does not recognize that anything is plugged in to my computer. I tried finding a driver for the camera with no success. I don't know if I need one though because the computer should recognize that something is plugged in anyway. Can anyone help me??
