Shatter error

I'm trying to re-create Andrew kramer's planet exploding effect from videocopilot. My composition is NTSC 1280 by 720, and when I try to render out the composition, an error message appears:

After Effects error: Shatter: Internal Error (512)

( 25 :: 60 )

I'm rendering in Quicktime, H.264 at 75% spatial quality with no audio (There's no air in space!)

What can I do fix this?
