Re: Action Movie Essential Programs

[Darby Edelen] "AE is not an editing program, it doesn't allow you to playback in real-time until it has rendered the frames that you want to playback."

[momo ushido] "err... I dont really know what that means"

What this means is this: you're probably used to hitting the space bar to get something to play. Well, you can't do that in AE, because AE doesn't work like a media player, and it doesn't work like an editing application. So you have to use it differently.

[Darby Edelen] "Even if it's just video, AE needs to render it first. Use RAM Preview to render and cache frames in RAM (limited by the amount of RAM you have) and then play them back in real time. The keyboard shortcut to RAM Preview is the 0 on the numpad."

[momo ushido] "...can you explain slower or something please."

Because AE is designed to do compositing and video effects, the software engineers knew darned well that it would never be able to play back in real time. So they came up with RAM Preview, a way to let you see your work.

Assuming you have a legal, non-cracked version of AE -- and judging by your obsession with free software, that's a BIG assumption -- you ought to look at AE Help, which answers a BUNCH of questions. I'd start by looking up the phrase, "RAM Preview".

You can't learn all the ins and outs of an application like AE just from a few tutorials. Yeah, they're helpful, but as repulsive as it may sound to you, sometimes you actually have to do SOME STINKIN' READING!

Is that slow enough for you?
