Well... in fact you can do that in AE alone... to some extend of course. It will never be as cool as it might be out of a 3D package, but still you can get away with it. Depends on what you're looking for.

Funny thing, but after Mr. Kramer's tutorial a lot of people were asking me about exact same thing. So I decided I'll record a tutorial on that. I just don't know when... I'm being pretty busy right now.
