Is Eye Replacement Possible

Hey all, I am just starting to learn visual effects and really like shake. I think node based compositing is more intuitive for me thus far.

I was wondering if it is possible to do something like the following tutorial with shake alone.

Also, I hear that shake can't do 3d, but not sure what that means exactly? I see a 3d channel option in the above tutorial, does that mean After Effects can do 3d?
