That's it in a nutshell. I wish I had more hope to offer on that front.

I suggest trying Premiere on Mac rather than FCP. There's no free trial for FCP, but more important, you don't need to throw in a bunch of new issues -- like figuring out WHERE to configure FCP to do what you need, much less HOW -- while you're trying to do basic troubleshooting.

I mean basic as "you NEED this" rather than basic as "dude, this is child's play." It's clearly anything but. I'm just saying that you'll keep oriented more easily if you're already familiar with the software....
