The return of "Helvetica Bold-83pv-RKSJ-H"
by Mike Gondek on Oct 26, 2009 at 5:21:00 pm

Illustrator CS4 on mac gives a missing Helvetica Bold-83pv-RKSJ-H when opening certain files. Does anyone know exactly what this font is supposed to be, we usually change to to helvetica bold condensed.

The font that Adobe is erroring on basically a MM multiple Master naming convention (eg: 83 is the boldness). To cleansne a file form reporting this error:
1) remove all cases of Helvetica Multiple Master fonts on your computer (HelveLTMM, Helvetica LT MM)
Known possible locations:
  • Macintosh HD/Library/fonts/
  • Macintosh HD/system/Library/fonts/
  • Macintosh HD/users/(your name)/system/Library/fonts/
  • Macintosh HD/applications/Adobe Illustrator CS4/(ctrl click on app and choose view package contents)/required fonts

2) now you can open offending files, do a find font, and chnage the font to helvetica bold condensed
3) save the file
4) now you can open this file on any machine which does not have helvetica mm fonts without error, collect your files for output, etc and not be plagued by window popups about this missing font.

Please add to this thread if you have any additional information/observations/or just want to share the waste of time you experienced with this error and it's return to CS4.
