Norman WillisCreateSpace cover art

I am new to Photoshop. I am trying to create cover art for a DVD and Amaray case, for CreateSpace. CreateSpace wants me to import their .pdf for use as a template, create my cover art, and then turn off their template before outputting to .gif or .jpg. Where can I find simple instructions for how to do that? Thanks.
