Emil ErikssonMoire effect when downscaling Redepic 4k to HD
by on Apr 2, 2012 at 4:09:34 pm

Hi,

Hope one of you guys can solve this as I'm not a Red guy..

We are going to start to grade a full length feature very soon and all the footage is shot on the Red Epic in Anamorphic 3296x2700.

When I downscale this image to 1920x1080 i get the Moire effect everywhere it's a straight line,
and this does not work well for an entire movie.. This also happens when I try 2k

The way I downscaled it was that I made the online in Nucoda Film master and made a new output which de-anamorphed and downscaled the footage and then I rendered it out as DPX.
(have also tried this in Davinci lite)

In 4k I really can't see this effect at all which will prove I'm doing something wrong:P

So the question would be: How should one properly downscale Red Epic footage to HD?

The reason I'm scaling it down to HD is that we are not going to be needing higher resolution.

Thanks in advanced and cheers!

/Emil
