RED has kicked a..es, and of course a few companies awoke. Canon has no high end to damage (like Sony does) and is quickly responding – and learning, 5D had no appeal to Europeans, now there is 7D.

There is no place for the Scarlet as initially planned any more, so it makes complete sense to me what they are doing: trying to develop a completely modular system for professionals and make it rock-solid from the start. They made history, but they'd kill themselves doing the same approach twice.

Look at ARRI, they are learning from RED now: announcing a system based on CAD renderings before it exists (even pricing), showing test footage from a sensor in an aluminum housing and even offering trade-in for the D20/21 !

RED has to manouvre carefully between those competitors, they don't sleep any more.
