Transcoding your footage through REDRushes will work fine. I suggest you use Clipfinder instead. It has a lot more options for adjusting Color and rendering.

The only question I have with that is what program you'll use to conform and color your 4k footage. If you plan to color on your own, Color has some good workflows. If you plan to color at a post house, then they'll deal with conforming back to the 4k files. You should only need to deliver and edl and the original RED files, or just the whole FCP project.
