Getting a better track

Hello All
I am wondering if there is anything one can do to increase the success of a track. Would it be helpful to somehow isolate the area by outputting the exact footage you are going to track from After Effects with an effect on it that would increase the likely hood of a solid track?
I have a piece of footage that I am trying to track with a newspaper on it. The picture I am trying to replace is not standing out well on the one side and even Mocha is having trouble. I think it might also be because the footage was being zoomed in and shot in 24p.
I was thinking of using a threshold effect on the footage, render it out and then import that in to Mocha and track it. When I put the threshold on I can get the picture I am trying to replace to show edges better.
Will this help? Or is there another effect that would?
