On the imagineering site, there is an example of cleaning up film damage with Mokey:

They basically avoid a crack in the film and track the objects around it. More or less the same thing as using two different tracking areas. You could track BOTH the pole AND the bend at the end of the road, which would give you even lighting on at least one of your track spots at all times, turning either one on or off as lighting dictates.

Other than that, you could make a copy of the clip with hard levels applied to make the pole max white against a dark/black background. That should help isolate the light variations. then apply the resulting track to the original non-leveled clip. Seems a bit excessive for a tool as robust as Mocha though...
