Re: Display @ 1280 x 854 - still can't fit Mocha on screen! HELP!
by John Stockton on Jul 31, 2008 at 12:38:45 pm

Hi Ron,

In the first place I did have more than a cursory knowledge of the software. The install was not right in the end. I do not display across two screens at low res. I use two screens yes, one for displaying and playing back video and the other for timelines and effects panels etc... the display on Mocha was like when you play a 1440x1080 video at full size in quicktime on a 19" screen. it was huge and bled onto the other screen and off the bottom completely. I went into the preferences and there was no way of rectifying the problem.

To be clear... there wasn't just a bit of the interface missing, everything below and to the right of the preview window was off the screen and therefore unusable. JP at Imagineer wrote to me and suggested I go to the user library and delete the com.imagineersystem file and reinstall, as I had informed him that I had only just installed Leopard on my mac upgrading from Tiger. I did so and now, even at my original screen res it fits with room to spare.

I appreciate that this was not an Imagineer/mocha fault and have apologized to JP for my original panicking post.

Explanation: When I realised that I had a problem I thought immediately 'no probs the Cow will have the answer it always does', but, when I saw all the posts panicking about over sized layout display and when I read the thread got the impression that the only answers were to either adjust display res or by a new display screen which I was angry about given that I have been using a number of powerful editing, compositing and 3D software for over a year now and have never had an issue with the display screens that I use.

You seemed angry that I suggested the COW championed the Mocha software. Well you kind of do. when a Cow 'leader' (with a "COW master series" DVD for sale) such as Aharon Robinowitz uses Mocha or any other plug-in especialy a tutorial dedicated to that peice of software, weather your willing to admit it or not that person is endorsing that product in exactly the same way a celebrity (which in the COW communities eyes Aharon is a celebrity) would endorse a shampoo or any other product. A lot of the people that come onto the cow respect its opinions and take its advice as I do and a lot of the plug-ins I have bought and use daily are as a direct result of watching the cow podcasts and following along. And frankly just saying you don't endorse something doesn't mean that you don't.

People don't buy Adidas because they make the best sports wear on the market. They buy Adidas because people like David Beckham endorse them by using their product to do their job. David Beckham wears Adidas because he gets paid 3M to wear Adidas and might be switching to Nike because Nike have offered more money. Nike have offered more money because they know for a fact that if David Beckham wears their football boots people will buy their football boots and not Adidas etc etc... If that didn't work corporations around the world would be rethinking their multi million dollar marketing strategies as we speak.

If you disagree then I'm afraid we will have to agree to disagree. I hope I haven't offended you as that is not my intention. If I have please accept my full apology.

all the best
John.
