Monet zoom/pan navigation

I'm working on a roto shot in monet and find it more than a little annoying that there is a slight delay when switching from pan to zoom. I suspect this is caused by the zoom window coming onscreen (even when it's turned off) during a zoom or pan operation. Is there a way to accelerate this a little ? In shake one can quickly go from a zoom to a pan with a seamless change of keys and it does not cause a delay which basically annoys. The delay is maybe a second or less, but when moving around quickly it interrupts workflow.
If anyone has used a 3d application where zooming/panning and orbiting an object happens instantly without a delay when switching from one to the other will know what I have in mind.
Anyone have any tips to remedy this ?
I'm working on a mac version of monet on a quad core g5, it does not do this on an 8 core intel mac. Could this be some difference in the code or open gl card ? No other app i use behaves this different across both machines.
