Hello David,

Thank you for your response. When I first started experimenting with codec's and file sizes, I went through the exercise of digitizing the same footage into 4 or 5 different codec's, and then looking at them with a critical eye on an HD monitor. I originally chose Prores422(HQ) as the best balance of perceived quality and size. Here is another question however... it seems like the file sizes that people get, when recording to a tapeless camera are significantly smaller. A 16gb card holds a lot more than 16 minutes of footage. Does this mean that the footage straight out of a tapeless camera has less quality? Or is it significantly more efficient than the process that I can obtain when digitizing from tape? What are those "problems" that might occur if using a codec such as h.264? Thanks so much for you insight. It is hard to come up to speed on all of the technical issues involved in HD content.

Brian
