Hi Kim,
While everything will eventually be moving toward HD, there's going to be a good long period where both SD and HD coexist. I think you're right to think that sticking with DigiBeta for another 10 years will be a safe move as long as your end users don't demand HD.
The P2 system seems to be gaining a lot of ground as of late. With the high cost of the solid state cards, however, you would have to figure out an archiving system going to either tape or harddrive. With the ability of P2/DVCPRO to do both SD and HD I wonder if it wouldn't be feasible to shoot P2/DVCPRO and continue to archive using your DBeta setup? As you move into the HD realm you could slowly convert your department over to a DVCPRO setup as needed.
I'd like to hear what other folks would suggest as well.
