I sit next to a guy who uses Premiere Pro. Vegas blows it away. In 20 minutes I can do what takes him an hour or two. He has to work on audio externally.
I know I'm gonna get a lot of heat from the adobe crowd on this post! Good luck if you want to write a script to automate your workflow.

Make yourself familiar with the user guide, try out all the shortcut keys, get the Sony Seminar Series for Vegas Pro 10 (all valid on 11) and then watch all the past webinars.
