Steve, I did what you said and rendered to Sony AVC and it worked fine no crashes, the problem I have now is the framerate, when I watch the movie it lags and I can't seem to fix it with trial and error, I have rendered a bunch of small tests using various framerates and messing around with the settings, but none seem to work, would you or anyone else happen to know the ideal render settings for a smooth picture?

The video was recorded in 60 fps and I have been rendering to 29fps NTSC and 24fps Film, while changing some of the settings hoping to get the right combination.
