John GregoriadesRe: Frustrating Screen Ratios - Need 720x480

Sorry, I did not explain very well. The ratio of width to height of a picture is what I meant. 720 divided by 480 = 1.5
I get the original at 640x424, which can then properly fill the screen because it is the same ratio as 720x480. No problem there.
But... the Display above the timeline is taller than the standard ratio, i.e. it is not "720x480" even though the program is set up for this figure. It is 1.36, for example 741x543, or 515x378, or 756x553, all the same, strange 1.36 ratio.
This leaves letterboxing at top and bottom. You can't stretch to fit, because it distorts faces. The output is also at this strange width-to-height ratio.
Something is wrong with the program?: I set it for "720x480" NTSC yet it works at an equivalent (keeping the 720 figure) at 720x527. It's too tall!
I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.
Thank you,
John
