After clicking the Custom button, Click
Best in the
Project tab.
Then click the
Video tab.
In here, make sure the
Video Quality slider is set to High (31).
Now click
Constant bit rate (bps): and change this value from whatever it's currently set to (usually 6,000,000) to 8,000,000.
Save this as a preset by entering a new name in the
Template box at the top of this tab (e.g. DVD-8 MB CBR) and click the
Save Template icon (looks like a floppy disc).
This template is now saved for future use.
Be advised that this setting is good for DVDs up to 1 hr. long if you're using a WAV audio file and 75 min. long if you're using an AC3 audio file at the default setting of 192 Kbp/s.
Anything longer and you'll need to use a bitrate calculator to determine optimum VBR encoding settings.
http://www.johncline.com/bitcalc110.zip is the one I use and if you do a search here, you'll find that it's proper use been discussed numerous times.
One last thing I'll add is to stick to using good name brand blank media.
Taiyo-Yuden and Verbatim are the two most recommended and trusted brands.
