Dreaded "COM failed to initialize" error msg
by Glenn Cowan on Jul 23, 2009 at 9:58:14 pm

Hi All,

I've been doing some complicated nested VEG file work across 3 project files. The first two were done in Vegas8, the final step in Vegas 9. One VEG nested into another VEG, then nested into the final VEG. All was working well. But i noticed a recent install of SoundForge7 had somehow unregistered by WaveHammer plugin, so I uninstalled SoundForge7, reinstalled Vegas 8 and 9, and I had WaveHammer was working again.

However, while I can open both my Vegas 8 VEGs, now when I move to open the final VEG in Vegas 9, i get the dreaded "COM failed to initialize" error, with a long string of numbers that end with two saying "Media Generator" at their string's end.

I've researched this best i can, followed any possible previous solutions (which were vague at best), even deleting all Generated Media in the nested VEGs, checking my Administrator settings in Vista (in RegEdit), and finally uninstalling/reinstalling both versions. All to no avail.

Has anyone found/heard a response? Sony apparently has not addressed this with past tickets...
