As a test I would try to re-import a DVD to an other Hard Drive, using Sony Pro 8c:
File->Import->DVD Camcorder Disk
I actually imported a 2.7 GB DVD this way.
With this Pro8c will convert the VOB files to MPG2. VOB files are not directly importable to Pro8c.

After import the MPG2 files showed up in Pro8c project bin and on the designated hard drive. Direct import from the hard drive also worked.
