Vegas rendering quality

I have a friend who works for a video production company and they charge $20,000 or so for "rendering". What do they do that is worth that? Is their hardware superior to Vegas? They edit in Final Cut Pro, but I don't know if they render in that program. Could you tell a difference between a vdieo from Vegas and one from a "pro" production house?
Thanks,
Guy
