.mov is just a container. Think of it like a brown paper bag. it can contain files made with several different codecs. Not all MOV files will open in Avid or FCP, just like all .mov files will not open in Vegas.
Very easy to convert to various QT formats in Vegas, you'll just need to create a render template for the format you need, if there isn't one already available.
