You said you're using Vegas 8 but is it Vegas Pro 8, Vegas Movie Studio+DVD Platinum or Vegas Movie Studio+DVD?
I'm asking this because I use Vegas Pro 8 and have no problem rendering most forms of HD without any additional software.
