You can use Architect to "prepare" the file (makes the AUDIO_TS & VIDEO_TS folders for you) and then use Roxio to burn these as a data disc.
I do this with RecordNow all the time and it's always worked for me.
As Douglas said though, this doesn't get to the root of your problem.
A quick Google search on your drive model turned up several complaints, most of them like yours :-(
