Not exactly sure if this would work, but if you are looking for a free, low tech solution, you could write on thin white paper with a dark marker, videotape the backside, not the front, and then reverse it in Vegas in pan/crop or track motion. If you lit the backside properly so you couldn't see through the paper, I think it might work.
