no audio from sony handicam files

I had a friend shoot a few shots of calif surf for a project.
It didn't need to be much at all. The friend used a sony handicam with hard drive and copied the files to a DVD and sent them to me. Windows media player plays them after a codec search and the audio is with it.
Vegas will only import the video. No audio.

What will it take to get the audio into Vegas?
