It is Not quite the same but On a Mac using Tiger, if you hold down the Control Key and Scroll It blows up the screen. It does not hold the resolution but does make it bigger and easier to read it quickly. Then scroll back to normal. "


Definitely, not quite the same thing, but just to add to your comment about a very useful feature in the current OS X. Holding the Control Key while moving the Scroll Wheel of your mouse does indeed zoom the screen, as long as you turn this feature on in the Apple System Preferences > Universal Access > The "Seeing" tab > Turn "Zoom" on.

If you do turn it on, not only does the mouse zoom work, but you can also hold down the Command & Option keys while pushing the "+" or "-" key on your keyboard. This is handy for people not using a mouse (like with a MacBook or MacBook Pro).
